few tips to get ready for a breathwork session

Food & Sleep

Fast or eat light (avoid meat, cheese), and drink no more then few sips of water 2-4 hours prior to breathing.  This way, your stomach is ideally empty, but not growling with hunger. Planning a good meal 4 hours prior, then not eating, is great timing for most people. Remember to prioritize blood glucose levels and other health needs.

Sensory Deprivation

You must have an eye mask or blindfold, it could be a bandana or anything that cover your eye in darkness (we suggest 100% cotton breathable fabric). It is recommended that you wear a fully darkening eye mask that allows for opening and closing eyes without the mask touching the eyes. Ideally, eyes are closed for the entire music set.

What Will Be There

I will have small and large pillows available for you (for comfort, i.e. behind head/knees and hugging, to release emotion pounding, yelling into). Pillows are also nice for body release work.

I will have blankets available for you. Best to wear layered clothing (re: temperature changes).

I will have water available for you, but feel free to bring your own (closed container best to avoid knocking over).

If you tend to dry out, consider dry eye spray/balm, lip balm, dry mouth spray/gel (Biotene, Oasis, Spry Spray).

I will have ready for you a small plastic bag or waste basket for waste/spit/vomit if need arises.

Preparing The Space

You may breathe either sitting or laying down (chair, recliner, bed, couch, floor).  I will prepare a space for you ahead of time, if you are able to tell me which position you prefer.

Integration & Sharing Circle

Prepare in advance for integration.  Have a journal handy.  I will have blank paper and colored pencils, etc. available for you here, but feel free to bring your own as well.

Our memories are state dependent, so once your session is over, you’ll easily forget your experience.  Additional ideas for integration will be given at the end of our session.

What To Avoid

Avoid all lozenges, gum, and hard or soft candy due to choking risk.

Avoid tight waist bands, bras, binders, and shapewear.  Loose clothing is recommended so you can breathe without constriction.

Minimize disruption during the music by silencing phone and computer notifications.
